Itron improves smart metering analytics with Microsoft

Itron announced its plan to use Microsoft Azure as its preferred cloud platform for Itron Analytics.

The cloud computing platform will provide a reliable and cost-effective option for hosting Itron Analytics, application that manage the value of the data generated by utility smart grid and smart distribution system.

Itron will have access to durable as well as available cloud storage, backup and recovery capabilities with Microsoft Azure. Itron Analytics can either be installed locally or managed by Itron as a part of its Itron Total Services.

Jeff Carkhuff, vice president, global product management, electricity, Itron, said, “With Microsoft Azure, Itron can provide faster service, accelerating the deployment on a reduced cost. Benefits from the expertise are awaited as we work towards efficient energy and water resources management.”

Jon Arnold, managing director, worldwide utilities industry, Microsoft, said, “Microsoft, through this strategic partnership will provide customers with access to massive computing power across a global network of data centres to run the complex analytics that utilities need on a secure, scalable and cost-effective platform.”
