Asian waste management sector creates new opportunities for local cos

Growth in the Asian waste management sector has created new demand for waste management and recycling solutions, reported Channel NewsAsia.

This will create new job opportunities for Singapore companies associated with waste management sector.

Tharman Shanmugaratnam, deputy prime minister has demanded Singapore based companies to seize the opportunity by scaling up the quality. He urged them to leverage on technology and skills to increase productivity, the news agency reported.

The amount of waste generated has reached 7.9 million tonnes in Singapore, for 2013. Singapore’s waste recycling rate has risen from 48 per cent to 61 per cent over the same period.

Maintaining adequate waste treatment capacity is necessary to achieve the target of a 70 per cent recycling rate by 2030. Government will announce new infrastructure possibilities like multi-storey recycling facility to support the sector.

A study that establish the synergies and cost savings through service sharing and intensifying land use by stacking up waste material is going on, added the agency.
