Clean and reliable sources based energy technology and strategy will be the driving factor for India’s sustained development and security, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of Diamond Jubilee of Department of Atomic Energy (DAE).

India needs further renewable energy investments that guarantee energy-efficient future development, the PM said.

Narendra ModiModi appreciated the Indian Scientific community for their achievements in the field of science and technology. India made to the forefront of scientific developments and achieved self-reliance in the field of nuclear fuel and reactors with vision, resolve and hard work, he added.

Prime Minister assured his support in the implementation of DAE’s expansion program. He asked DAE to keep on upgrading technology, for both long term plans and international trends. DAE has to plan for ensuring availability of skilled human resources in the country.

Prime Minister told DAE that India has advanced standards and practices and nuclear safety and security are given high priority in India. He also asked DAE to pay attention to the local communities in planning and implementing nuclear power projects.

He hoped that role of industry will grow in providing equipment and systems for the nuclear program. India needs to tap additional investment sources for its ambitious expansion program. He said that success of DAE was creditable as it took place in an era of denying international technology approval.

Growing international partnership in the nuclear energy is always welcomed and timely implementation of projects in order to meet techno-economic viability and safety standards are required. For international partnership in India, technology transfer was a vital element, he observed.

He also directed DAE to expand its research of atomic science in areas like healthcare, waste management, water treatment, agriculture, and food preservation. Prime Minister was also apprised of the safety measures adopted by the DAE.
