Sharp unveils SmartStorage energy solution

Sharp Electronics has announced the launch of SmartStorage energy solution in California with plans to offer it in other states in the second half of 2014.

SmartStorage, developed in the U.S., offers a unique energy storage solution that is capable of cutting utility demand charges for commercial as well as industrial buildings.

The product can keep electric energy stored in reserve, which is selectively released according to electricity demand in order to control the use. The system uses sophisticated controls to manage this energy release delivering high performance and efficiency.

Carl Mansfield, general manager, Energy Systems and Services Group, Sharp, said, “The SmartStorage product brings Sharp’s innovation, reliability and quality to the emerging energy storage market. This product’s hardware, integrated with software, and backed by 10-year O&M service and performance guarantee provides a turnkey solution that works widely for commercial and industrial business owners.”

In addition, the product can operate either as a stand-alone solution or be deployed with any solar electric installation, resulting in lower electric demand charges.

SmartStorage can be seen as a game-changer for clean-energy in California, the company said. SmartStorage backed with innovative technology and reliability offers best energy storage solution available in the market, explained, Brandon Conard, chief strategy officer, HelioPower, an integrated energy solutions company in California.

Sharp is now collaborating with certain California-based project development groups to promote SmartStorage to business owners with product orders and distribution deals.

Over the past 18 months, SmartStorage has undergone quality assurance testing, with performance rated at a building pilot deployment in downtown San Diego.
