Venue of Major League Soccer install GreenDrop Recycling Stations

Major League Soccer and the Portland Timbers chose GreenDrop Recycling Stations in order to implement their strategic sustainability plans for waste collection at this year’s 2014 AT&T MLS All-Star Game in Portland, OR, at Providence Park.

With the help of MLS WORKS Greener Goals program, the League plans to aware the soccer community about best recycling practices and make facilities more environment friendly by executing green community initiatives in collaboration with respective organizations like Green Sports Alliance and Natural Resources Defense Council.

This program enables the people to assort themselves recyclable items, an extension program of already prevailing sustainability practices, said, Kristel Wissel, director, Community Relations, Timbers.

The GreenDrop Recycling Station was designed after various efforts by the Portland Trail Blazers head office at Moda Center.

The landfill diversion rate of the stadium increased from 38 percent in 2007 to over 90 percent in 2013, by replacing garbage cans with GreenDrop Recycling Stations.

Twenty-five GreenDrop stations were deployed throughout Providence Park for soccer fans from all over the country to enhance assorted waste diversion enabling a significant impact.
Pacific Cascade in the Pacific Northwest is taking all efforts to promote sustainable practices, said, Lyle Peters, director, Sales, GreenDrop Stations, Vancouver, WA.

The GreenDrop stations have become a permanent part at the stadium and will help the Portland Timbers community educate their fans about sustainability efforts already in place throughout Portland.

GreenDrop Recycling Stations are valuable asset when investing in facilities operations and public awareness.
