SAP aims new Guinness record with longest EV rally

SAP SE and partners have joined forces for the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title for the largest parade of electric vehicles.

On 20th September, Silicon Valley residents with 100 percent electric battery vehicles will drive together in the city of Cupertino.

This will be the 42nd annual electric vehicle rally in Silicon Valley, sponsored by SAP, Nissan, Pacific Gas & Electric, Schneider Electric and the Bay Area Air Quality Management District.

Organized as part of the National Drive Electric Week, the parade will be held across U.S. cities to promote electric vehicles. The current record existing in Guinness record is 481.

SAP with its commitment to sustainability is encouraging employees to drive or share electric vehicles, which are core to its philosophy, said, Tanja Rueckert, executive vice president, chief operating officer, Products and Innovation Services, SAP SE.

This challenge will publicize the simplicity and convenience of driving an electric vehicle, in addition to setting a new world record, added, Rueckert.

The SAP Palo Alto campus was one of the first Silicon Valley companies to install electric vehicle charging stations. Recently, they announced plans to increase electric vehicles in its car fleet to 20 percent by 2020.

For SAP, encouraging sustainability practices among employees and local communities have benefits like achieving the goal of cutting carbon footprint to half from the value of 2007.
