The Bard 1 80 5MW German offshore wind project commenced operation last year, got shut down due to technical difficulties, reports Breitbart News.

The wind farm comprises turbines situated, off the north German coastline. Built at a cost of hundreds of millions, the project is estimated to have cost €340 million in lost power generation over the last year.

The engineers have failed to get the electricity generated back to shore. Attempt to turn on the turbines has resulted in overloading and smoldering offshore converter stations.

If the operators are not fond guilty, German taxpayers will have to pay for the running and repair costs, as per German Energy Act 2012.

However, the situation creates a negative impact on the entire green energy industry. The failure of a design expected to be a global leader of all projects has cast doubts on other projects.

Germany has highest energy bills in the world, which was not improved by carbon reduction programs adapted by EU.

Earlier this year, Minister Michael Fallon announced eliminating subsidies for onshore wind farms, but they were executed for offshore projects.

In July, planning permission was granted by the government for a 175 turbine wind farm off the south coast of England.

The Rampion project will cost £2 billion to construct, and is expected to be handed £200 million a year in taxpayer subsidies.

However, with the Bild 1 turbines are already under scanner by critics for wasting huge amounts of investments.

The question upraised by many in Germany is whether this is the tragic end of wind energy era as far as Germany is considered, even before the beginning.
