San Diego achieves 10, 000 EVs on road milestone

San Diego has enough reasons to rejoice, by achieving the milestone of 10,000 EVs on roads in metro region, this year.

Launched in December 2010, more than 10,000 EVs have been sold or leased in the San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) service territory of San Diego and southern Orange counties so far.

The California Plug-In Electric Vehicle Collaborative has also announced that new sales figures show California surpassed 100,000 plug-in car sales, setting a new world record.

The achievements show governor’s goals of bringing supportive infrastructure for one million zero emission vehicles by 2020 and putting 1.5 million zero emission vehicles on California roads by 2025.

SDG&E has established a clean transportation program and there are more than 600 public charging stations available now to serve the EVs in the region. The all-electric car sharing company car2go launched their first fleet in San Diego and now has more than 380 cars in the area.

SDG&E offers EV drivers a low electricity rate when they program their cars to charge at night. Additionally, federal tax credits and state rebates totaling up to $10,000 are available to EV drivers.

September 20 is Electric Vehicle Day in San Diego. Right now, San Diego is going through a National Drive Electric Week event.

During this event, participants can test drive latest EVs on the market. The country provides lots of incentives for EVs and participating in this event will give you more knowledge on these incentives as well.

It is observed that, San Diego has one of the highest adoption rates of EVs in the world. San Diego’s Electric Vehicle Day is being hosted by SDG&E in partnership with Center for Sustainable Energy and CleanTECH San Diego.

National Drive Electric Week is being organized by Plug In America, the Sierra Club, and the Electric Auto Association. 35 states are participating with 115 events planned.
