Canadian Solar has announced the completion of the 1.2 MW DC solar PV power plant at Shibushichocho, Kagoshima Prefecture in Japan.
The plant is powered by Canadian Solar CS6P-255P modules and will generate approximately 1,533MWh of clean electricity per year.
The electricity produced will be purchased by Kyushu Electric Power under a 20 year feed-in-tariff contract at the rate of 40.00 yen ($0.37) per kWh.
This is Canadian Solar’s first PV project in Japan as well as a major achievement for project development and EPC teams that represents another step in the execution of total solar energy solutions strategy, said, Shawn Qu, chairman, CEO, Canadian Solar.
Currently, its late stage utility-scale project pipeline in Japan has a production capacity of 405MW (DC).
Excluding the 1.2MW project that has just been connected to the grid, another 42.4MW are expected to start construction by the end of 2014.
Of the total 405MW pipeline, approximately 150MW have approval for full grid connection, which are under the construction permitting stage.
In another initiative, Canadian Solar has been awarded a module supply agreement to provide 1.5 MW of PV modules to Kawar Energy for a rooftop solar power project for a university in Amman, Jordan.
