Kalki Communication Technologies (Kalkitech), a Bangalore, India-based provider of communication and optimization solutions for the Smart Grid, is partnering with Universiti Tenega Nasional (UNITEN) to develop software and hardware for intelligent power delivery.

UNITEN, a wholly owned university of Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), Malaysia, entered into an MoU with Kalkitech to cooperate in research, development, product realization and commercialization through joint research & development, product funding, technological transfer, seminars and joint commercialization activities.

Under the MoU, UNITEN will be carrying out feasibility studies on deployment of Kalkitech’s technology, conducting experiments and tests on Kalkitech technologies. Kalkitech would be training, sharing technical information and providing support to UNITEN staff and students.

Malaysia is a key market for companies like Kalkitech, thanks to the growing smart grid investment in the region.

“Our association with UNITEN will help TNB and Kalkitech better understand smart grid technologies and their localization for the region,” said Prasanth Gopalakrishnan, CEO, Kalkitech. “We are confident that this MoU will steer our association with UNITEN into a long term, cooperative relationship in research and development of the smart grid.”

UNITEN plans to collaborate with Kalkitech to produce solutions for integrating various smart components in the power delivery system and also to train next generation of ICT-aware power engineer, said Dr Hang See Ong, Associate Professor and Head of Electronics and Communication Engineering at UNITEN.
