2nd Indo-German Water Partnership Day held in Kochi

Chief Minister of Kerala, India Oommen Chandy stressed the importance of sustainable technology for water and waste water treatment according to the conditions of the state.

Minister was inaugurating the second Indian-German Water Partnership-day-2014 “German Solutions to Indian Challenges, held at Kochi of Kerala.

Several parts of the state faces acute drinking water scarcity in the summer, but there were great potential for overcoming such problems using proper technology, stated the Minister.

The possibility of desalination of semi saline back waters of Kerala, cost effective decentralized and location specific desalination plants are some examples minister pointed out that can be tackled as part of the water treatment technology.

He anticipated that by adapting these measures, the water scarcity problems of the coastal areas of Kerala can be addressed to a great extent.

In addition, treatment of waste water was another area that needed urgent attention in the state. Waste water treatment is an important part of the deliberations. The experience of the German experts with the technologies which have been fine turned to the local conditions shall be of immense value for the state, concluded the Minister.

German Water Partnership (GWP) sponsored second Indian-German Water Partnership Day in Kochi.

GWP is a consortium of 350 German companies working on various aspects of water technologies. The collaboration with Centre for Sustainable Water Technology and Management (CSWTM) of SCMS will use German technology on water to be customized for Indian conditions for solving water problems in the country.

German water experts shared their presentations and held discussions and seminars to impart more knowledge about German approaches to the challenges of sustainable water management.

They discussed challenges and opportunities of the Indian water sector, paying special attention to sustainable water resource management.

Following the opening, experts and participants discussed on protection of local water bodies, sustainable solutions for municipal waste water and storm water management.

The event is organized in cooperation with SCMS Group of Educational Institutions.
