Gamesa trades 74-MW Oaxaca wind farm to Grupo Mexico

Gamesa has sold a 74-megawatt wind farm in Oaxaca, southern Mexico, to Grupo Mexico SAB, reports Bloomberg.

The wind farm is equipped with 37 of Gamesa’s G80 2-megawatt turbines. It was commissioned in early 2014.

Gamesa will operate and maintain the machines for the next five years.
This latest sale reinforced its position as a major developer, OEM and service provider in Mexico’s wind sector, stated Gamesa officials.

Recently, In Oaxaca itself Gamesa has signed another contract with Iberdrola for services at the La Ventosa 3 project, adding up to 1 GW of total wind capacity.

The Spanish company expects to boost the figure by 50 percent to 1.5GW by the end of 2015.

Gamesa started up its Mexican O&M operations in 1999 and the first post-warranty maintenance contract was secured in 2011 at the La Rumorosa wind farm.

So far, Gamesa has developed and commissioned more than 244 MW in Mexico, with another 70MW project work going on.

In 2012, Gamesa expanded in Latin America, specifically in Mexico, where it completed construction of the Bii Nee Stipa II wind farm in Oaxaca, developed for Enel Green Power. This wind farm comprises 37 G80-2.0 MW turbines and has a total installed capacity of 74 MW.
