Brazil Govt reveals incentives for EVs, hybrids at Auto Show

Brazil government, at the inauguration of the Sao Paulo International Motor Show has announced a proposal to provide incentives for manufacturers of hybrid and electric vehicles, reports Latin American Herald Tribune.

He also announced a plan towards economic growth boom to sustain auto production in the country.

On the first day of the Show, authorities and auto-sector executives discusses on the issue of vehicle production and its impact on urban mobility.

The mayor of Sao Paulo, Fernando Haddad, has initiated on an absolute campaign to provide designated bicycle and bus lanes.

During the event, Development, Industry and Foreign Trade Minister Mauro Borges has assured that economic growth will resume in 2015, matching with the start of President Dilma Rousseff’s second term.

Brazil must map out two objectives in the area of car manufacturing: safety and energy efficiency. The technology chain needs to be stimulated. President Dilma government will work to encourage hybrid and electric automobiles, Borges said.

After a disappointing 2014 for the automotive industry, Brazil will make some adjustments in the economic area and resume solid growth, which is essential for vehicle manufacturing, he added.

The Sao Paulo International Motor Show will run through Nov. 9 and is expected to attract some 800,000 people.

Brazil is world’s fifth-largest auto market and seventh-biggest vehicle manufacturer.
