The FedEx hub in Hutchins has installed the largest rooftop solar system in North Texas and Oncor service area, reports Dallas Business Journal.

The 1.4 megawatt system has begun the commercial production.

The system has 4,622 solar panels to produce power to offset 20 percent of the building’s annual electricity consumption, corresponding to about 177 homes.

It costs about $3 million, which includes a $1.36 million incentive from Oncor in addition to federal incentives.

The panels stretch cover one half of the 630,000-square-foot warehouse and a 100,000-square foot expansion will open in August and FedEx could add more solar to that building in the future.

The energy data feeds into a cellular array with real-time monitoring.

Company is now finalizing with a variety of customers who are going to participate, said, Rob Federighi, vice president, business development, SoCoreEnergy.

SoCoreEnergy was responsible for the development of panels.
