Waste Management has initiated a new online portal for its “Recycle Often” program in order to increase recycling and improve the quality of materials with the help of a wide-range education system.

Recycle Right campaign promotes basic methods of recycling with the help of simple rules and authorizing citizens to become Recycling Ambassador.

Users can access the campaign online and make a digital aptitude to reconsider about recycling by “getting back to the basics of good recycling” and encourage others to follow.

As recycling has evolved over the years, confusion about collection systems on what can and cannot be recycled, what materials are made from, how they are packaged and their market has increased.

At present, up to 65 percent of consumers are depositing non-recyclables in their local recycling bins.

Waste Management’s Recycle Often. Recycle Right campaign streamlines recycling by promoting three basic rules such as recycle all bottles, cans and paper, keep items clean and dry and say no plastic bags.

These three recycling rules serve as the foundation for understanding how to recycle, while also addressing some of the common nationwide issues impacting recycling rates and business profitability for the industry, said, Jim Trevathan, executive vice president, chief operating officer, Waste Management.

The customers want to do the right thing. By emphasizing the most common recyclable products and providing helpful tips to ensure those materials can in fact be recycled rather than end up in a landfill, Waste Management hopes to significantly impact the amount of usable materials entering the recycling facilities, which helps save resources, time, energy and raw materials, added Trevathan.

When users visit the Recycle Often. Recycle Right website, they have to pledge to perform better recycling as well as urge others to do the same by sharing their experiences through social media.

Waste Management plans to gather 5,000 online promises by the end of this month, in honor of America Recycles Day on November 15.

The educational website gives recycling information that can be downloaded.

Through the Myth Busters guide, consumers can learn more about doubtful items whether to be placed in the waste or recycling bin, with explanations on why and how materials are or are not recyclable.

In addition, recyclers are encouraged to engage through social media using the campaign’s hashtag #RORR.
