HBRE Wind Power has announced a new strategic cooperation deal with HTL on a project in Dak Lak Province of Vietnam.

HBRE is the first company to develop a wind farm project in Vietnam’s Central Highlands.

HBRE and Huy Hoang Transportation & Logistics Corporation (HTL) have signed a framework agreement on comprehensive strategic partnership to promote investment efficiency for renewable energy projects in Vietnam.

According to the agreement, HTL will be the EPC contractor for designing, supply, constructing, testing and handing over the project.

Initially, the two companies will jointly implement the first phase of the Tay Nguyen (Central Highlands) wind power project in Dlie Yang Commune.

HTL will become an equity investor in this project, with a contribution of VND150 billion ($7.06 million).

The Central Highlands is considered as one of the regions with the highest potential for wind energy in the Southeast Asia, with an average wind speed of 7-7.6 meters per second.

The HBRE project will be completed in three phases extending up to 2020, with an expected total capacity of up to 120 MW.

The first 28 MW phase, with an investment of nearly VND1.4 trillion ($65.89 million), will begin generating 100 million kWh electricity in 2016.

On completing three phases, it will be the largest-capacity wind farm in Vietnam, with production of 400,000,000 kWh per year, equivalent to the power needed for 200,000 households.

HBRE is the first company to run a wind power project in the region. The cooperation between HBRE and HTL in this project will bring a prosperous outcome that contributes to Tay Nguyen’s sustainable development and the general development of renewable energy in Vietnam, said, Tran Viet Dung, deputy head, Central Highlands Steering Committee.

On September 23, HBRE and GE signed a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in developing the Central Highlands wind farm, choosing GE as the provider of 14 turbines for the first phase of the project later.
