Eurus joins with Siemens for Japanese near -shore wind farm

Eurus Energy in partnership with Siemens will establish an 18MW hybrid near-shore wind project in the Sea of Japan by January.

Siemens has supplied 3MW direct-drive of its wind turbines for the project located at the port of Akita, a city on the northwest coast of the island of Honshu.

The plant has already installed one of the Siemen’s SWT-3.0-101 machines, featuring a rotor diameter of 101 meters on pile foundations in the port.

Tokyo-based Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal was responsible for the foundation works.

Eurus is a joint venture between utility Tokyo Electric Power (Tepco) and Toyota Tsusho, the trading unit of the Toyota group.

Eurus will complete its 51MW Yurikogen wind farm in January 2016.

Siemens will supply 17 of its 3MW turbines for the project as part of a five-year service and maintenance deal.

In another major development, Hydro-Quebec Distribution has selected three wind projects totaling 446.4MW with Vestas, Siemens and General Electric to supply the turbines.

Gowon wind project in South Korea is being jointly developed by Dae Myoung, part of Dae Myoung GEC, and Eurus Energy.
