Suzlon to make big investments in Gujarat for next 5 years

Suzlon is planning to invest Rs 24,000 crore in various energy projects in Gujarat to generate 3,000 mw in next five years.

As per the plan, the company will be setting up 2,000 mw of on-land wind capacity, 500-mw of offshore wind capacity and 500 mw of solar capacity.

Mainly, all the 3,000 MW new projects will be located along the 200-km-long coastal belt in the Kutch-Saurashtra region.

The first pilot project of 500 MW will also be established in Kutch in the next three to five years.

Already, Suzlon is producing 1,800 MW in Kutch, which comprises 20 percent of its entire production capacity in India at an investment of Rs. 14,000 crore.

The entire investments will create 6,000 direct and 75,000 indirect jobs in the state.

Suzlon will encourage various industries to invest and own captive wind power plants, with a minimum capacity of 2.1 MW, for assured clean energy supply, said, Tulsi R Tanti, chairman, Suzlon.

“Some projects will be of hybrid variety with solar power equipment installed next to wind turbines, forming part of the common grid,” he added.

Currently, Suzlon has an installed capacity of wind power production at 25,000 MW globally, including 8,250 MW in India with a 40 percent market share.
