SunEdison today announced that it is sole solar energy supplier for the 250 member school districts engaged in School Project Utility Rate Reduction (SPURR).

SPURR is a joint power authority program in California that pools the purchasing power of its members, providing cost efficiency.

The Renewable Energy Aggregated Procurement (REAP) program initiated by SPURR helps schools and community colleges to achieve best pricing, avoiding the process of seeking competitive bids themselves.

Participating districts gain energy savings along with a benefit of locking in a major portion of their energy costs for 20 years, which helps to protect from future rate hike.

Embracing solar through this program will help to promote cost efficient plans for schools and colleges in California.

SPURR has evaluated a number of qualified solar vendors based on each company’s background, relevant K-12 experience, price, system design and capabilities, and operations and maintenance expertise, before commencing the program.

In November 2014, SunEdison and Irvine Unified School District completed three new solar installations at schools in Orange County, California.

The school district now provides power to 22 schools with SunEdison solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, eliminating an extra $5 million – $8 million in energy costs over the next 20 years.
