First Solar achieves 10 gigawatts of solar capacity

First Solar has achieved 10 gigawatts of installed solar capacity so far in renewable energy segment.

The company has announced this success at the World Future Energy Summit held recently in Abu Dhabi.

Apparently, First Solar is the first thin-film solar PV module manufacturer in the world to attain this milestone.

It is estimated that, the 10 GW of installed capacity produced around 14,000 gigawatt hours of electricity last year.

Since its creation back in 2002, the company has managed to find market leadership with its durable and efficient photovoltaic products.

In December 2014, First Solar entered the U.S. residential solar market by becoming the largest single investor in Clean Energy Collective’s community solar business.

The same year in March, First Solar set a world record for cadmium-telluride (CdTe) photovoltaic (PV) module conversion efficiency tests.

Besides, First Solar has been selected to establish Qatar’s first solar power station, which is expected to be functional by 2016.

In India, the company has secured the lowest bid in the 500 MW solar tender of Andhra Pradesh, quoting Rs 5.25 a kWhr for 40 MW and Rs 5.35 a kWhr for another 40 MW.

First Solar ranked no 1 in 2014 solar utility contractor’s list with 2887 MW of total installed capacity.

In July 2014, First Solar planned to construct a 141 MW Luz del Norte plant with a loan amount of $230 million from the Overseas Private Investment, the U.S. government financial institution.

In addition, the company collaborated with other organizations to promote solar power adoption across various continents.

Currently, they are engaged in a wide range of projects that will add to its current solar energy capacity, which are expected to be completed in near future.
