The video of French company Swincar’s Spider Electric 2 offroad vehicle clocked 561,461 hits when last checked. The vehicle which was launched at The Salon des Inventions — an annual exhibition for inventors and their inventions — in Geneva in April is an indication of what electric vehicle technology holds in future.

Dubbed the “mechanical spider on wheels” the vehicle uses independent suspension, which means its wheels are able to operate fully independent of each other.

The massive control arms of the vehicle give it incredible flexibility to operate.

And the offroad vehicle is powered by a lithium-ion battery pack that is placed in the middle of the spider’s suspended aluminium body. The driver sits right above the power pack. According to Swincar, the Spider Electric 2 is able to drive for four hours on a fully charged battery.

The company offers the options of traditional two-wheel steering and four-wheel steering which adds to the Spider’s agility.

Ground clearance appears to be one disadvantage the Spider currently has. It means the vehicle won’t be able to climb the steepest rocks without scraping its underside, Mashable reports.
