Hitachi is set to study the feasibility of an Information and Communications Technology-based power saving project at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi.

New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO), the largest public management organization of Japan, has selected Hitachi for the ‘green hospital demonstration project’.

Preliminary testing for the project will be undertaken from April to October. And Hitachi will install an IT systems environment that tracks and visualizes energy use, besides upgrading the existing infrastructure at the hospital, to facilitate optimization of the overall energy use at the hospital.

The project will continue for about two years after a NEDO screening committee gives its clearance.

The ministry of health and family welfare announced Green AIIMS project in June 2014 with the aim to increase the number of green hospitals in the country.

The project included the following objectives: reduce the use of diesel by electrical generators installed to provide power backup; install a solar power generation system to optimize operational control of hospital facilities; install highly-efficient air conditioning; build a data center with a storage server and IT system equipped for energy saving.

Naotoshi Nishida, Vice President, Infrastructure Systems Company, Hitachi India, expressed pleasure at being able to participate in the project. Tetsuya Tanaka, the chief representative of NEDO in New Delhi, added that collaboration on the project will strengthen Indo-Japanese relationship.

India has been lagging behind in providing adequate public services to its populace of 1.25 billion in step with the country’s economic growth in recent years.

There is a chronic shortage of power and utilities across the country are degraded by inefficient energy usage.
