Andhra Pradesh government has reinforced its focus on renewable energy – including wind and solar – in its budget for 2015-16.

The government is developing 2,500 MW capacity solar power parks in Ananthapuram, Kurnool and Kadapa districts.

The budget also proposes installing 10,000 solar pump sets, said Finance Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, in his budget speech.

Overall, the government has allocated Rs 4,360 crore for the power sector in its budget for 2015-16.

In the recent RE-Invest meet, Andhra Pradesh government signed MoU with various firms for generating 4,000 MW of wind power and 200 MW of hybrid power.

As part of its efforts to support renewable energy development, the government also launched new wind and solar policies.

The government is aiming Rs 8.5 billion investment in solar power, especially in power transmission and distribution in the next four to five years.

To promote the growth of the industry, the government has launched initiatives like single wind system, easy permissions and industry like treatment for rendering clearances.

The introduction of single widow method is helpful in allotting permissions for large-scale solar parks and wind power plants.
