Sunrun relocates San Diego branch office as jobs grow

Residential solar projects Sunrun

US-based residential solar company Sunrun has announced relocation and expansion of its San Diego branch office.

The company claims the move is aimed at accommodating its growing workforce.

Sunrun had opened a branch office at Escondido earlier this year and along with the San Diego branch is expected to bring more than 60 new jobs in the sector.

The local workforce of Sunrun is projected to increase by more than 70 percent across a range of functions.

“San Diego has the highest power tariff in California, so it’s no surprise more consumers are looking for ways to save money on their electricity bills,” Ethan Miller, the senior vice president of operations at Sunrun, said. “We’re expanding our San Diego facilities to help support increasing consumer demand as more San Diegans look to go solar.”

Solar Foundation National Solar Jobs Census 2014, recorded that the solar industry employed more than 54,000 people in California last year.

And employment in the sector was growing 10 times faster than overall employment in the state during the same period.

California solar employers expect jobs in the sector in the state to total more than 64,000 by the end of this year.
