American renewable energy company Iberdrola Renewables has entered into long-term power supply agreements with Equinix data centers.
The company will supply data centers with clean energy produced by a fleet of wind farms that Iberdrola operates.
Wind farms in Washington, Oregon and Texas will be supplying bulk of the power.
Last year Equinix fulfilled more than 30 percent of its total electricity requirement by purchasing clean energy.
The company, which claims to be committed to improving energy efficiency at its data centers, has stated that its long-term goal was to use “100 percent clean and renewable energy” across its global platform.
Portland, Oregon-based Iberdrola has more than $10 billion of operating assets totaling more than 6,000 MW of wind and solar generation.
Last September, Iberdrola signed a 10-year contract with Roseville Electric, the municipal electric utility of Roseville, California, to supply it with a package of renewable energy products.
Roseville was seeking to increase its share of renewable energy input to 33 percent by 2020.
The deal was expected to help Roseville fulfill California’s renewable portfolio standard (RPS) obligation through 2024.
It was also aimed to help Roseville achieve cost efficiency and ease of compliance with the RPS law.
