ERI in pact with BGA to conduct e-waste collection event

Electronic Recyclers International (ERI) has partnered with the Broadway Green Alliance (BGA) to organize an e-waste collection event which will be held at Times Square in New York City.

New Yorkers can utilize this opportunity to dispose of their unwanted electronics, which will take place on January 28th.

From the beginning of 2015, throwing electronic waste in trash has been made illegal in the state of New York.

Last September, a similar event was staged by ERI which helped to collect around 8,800 pounds of electronic waste.

The BGA is a five-year-old industry initiative that educates and motivates the theatre community to adopt environmentally friendlier practices.

Moreover, most of Broadway’s leading shows and stars are getting involved and encouraging citizens to take advantage of the opportunity to unload unwanted electronics.

In addition, ERI bins will also be available at the backstage of all participating Broadway productions.

Last week, ERI organized a training session for members of the Solving the E-Waste Problem Initiative (Step) as part of its “Person in Port” program.

The program was launched by the United Nations University (UNU), the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Basel Convention Coordination Centre for Africa (BCCC) in Nigeria.

In another development, ERI entered into a partnership with the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School of Business’s Initiative for Global Environmental Leadership (IGEL).

ERI and IGEL will jointly develop advanced sustainability solutions integrating with best business practices in the field of electronic recycling.
