Egypt floats tenders for 500 MW new energy projects

Egypt has invited bids for the development of three renewable energy projects constituting capacity of 500 megawatts.

According to a report, tenders have been floated for one solar photovoltaic project (200 megawatts), one concentrating solar power project (50 megawatts) and one wind power project (250 megawatts).

Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) and the New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA) have floated the tenders, law firm Eversheds LLP announced.

The projects proposed to be developed in West Nile region are to be developed on Build, Own and Operate (BOO) basis.

And EETC will be signing power purchase agreements with the winners. NREA will provide land for the projects.

Parties interested in the projects are required to submit pre-qualification documents by October 5. And bidding for the photovoltaic and concentrating solar power projects are scheduled for November 2 and November 16, respectively, the report adds.

Bidding is open to international players matching eligibility criteria. For the photovoltaic project bidders need to have developed at least three 50-MW facilities of the specific type.

CSP bidders require experience of developing 30 MW of solar thermal power capacity across three sites.
