Crompton Greaves wins $19 mn order for smart meters from GNF

Avantha Group Company Crompton Greaves (CG) has won a 17 million-euro (about $19 million) order for ZIV single- and three-phase smart meters from Gas Natural Fenosa (GNF).

The agreement makes CG the main supplier of smart meters for the utility. Last year CG had won an order to supply 750,000 single phase smart meters from GNF.

The company has stated that it has expanded and modernized its plant in Zamudio, Spain, with automatic assembly lines capable of producing more than 2 million smart meters annually.

The single phase smart meter of ZIV has garnered a string of key orders from some of the most relevant and innovative European utilities such as Iberdrola in Spain, EDP in Portugal and ERDF in France.

The company offers ZIV meters, data concentrator units (DCU), distribution automation solutions (DAS) and Substation Automation Systems (SAS).

More than 4 million ZIV units have been deployed worldwide.

GNF is a pioneer in the integration of gas and electricity and has presence in more than 30 countries, and 23 million customers spread out on five continents. The company has an installed capacity of 14.8 gigawatts and boasts a diversified mix of generation.

The utility is the first major integrated gas and electricity company in Spain and Latin America and the third in the Iberian Peninsula.
