In two separate developments Itron, a clean energy technology and services company, has agreed to deploy its smart solutions to respective authorities.
In Tennessee, the Water and Sewer Department (MWSD) of the city of Murfreesboro, has selected Itron smart water solution to modernize its water distribution system.
MWSD, which has a consumer base of nearly 100,000, hopes to effectively and efficiently manage the delivery and use of water through automation, leak detection and analytics.
Itron’s smart water solution, the company claims, “enables MWSD to take advantage of detailed meter data and analytics to support enhanced customer service, revenue protection, consumption forecasting, flow analysis and district metering”. Utility customers will have online access to their accounts and consumption information, helping them better understand their water usage to reduce the amount they use and save money before they get their bill, a statement says.
In Tonga, Itron reached an agreement with Tonga Power Limited (TPL) to install its OpenWay Riva smart grid technology. TPL will deploy the solution to benefit more than 20,000 customers from Tonga’s main island Tongatapu in the South Pacific Ocean.
OpenWay Riva is a solution for holistic energy management. TPL will utilize Itron’s services to manage and maintain its network.
Using OpenWay Riva, Tonga will be able to monitor and manage the integration of renewable energy into the electric grid, ensuring grid reliability and energy security. Besides, TPL also plans to use the solution to maximize revenue protection and help manage customer disconnects and reconnects remotely.
“The OpenWay Riva solution includes OpenWay Riva smart meters, Cisco Connected Grid Routers as well as back-office data collection software, including Itron’s meter data management, collection engine and reporting software and Cisco’s IoT Field Network Director,” a statement says.
The installation of the solution will be completed by the end of this year, the statement adds.
