Itron announced it has been selected as a key supplier of 4.6 million G3 Linky smart meters for the second phase of the program, which will begin in early 2017 and will run through 2018.

The Linky meter is the latest generation of electrical meters installed by Enedis. It is referred to as “communicating” because it allows information to be transmitted remotely. It will replace all electricity meters in France by 2021 for all private households (generally from 3 to 9 kVA), businesses (generally from 18 to 36 kVA) and local authorities (from 3 to 36 kVA).

Itron has also delivered 1.5 million Linky smart meters to Enedis (formerly ERDF), an electricity distribution network operator in France, for the first phase of the program. The company has been engaged in research and development efforts, as well as the pilot project from 2008 to 2010.

Supported by the local team working in close collaboration with Enedis, the meters are manufactured in Itron’s Chasseneuil, France facility.

“Itron’s commitment to quality and enthusiastic approach to the partnership have been key factors in all of our projects with Enedis. Our continued involvement and leadership role in this visionary program illustrates the confidence Enedis has in Itron and our high-quality, high-performing smart meters as well as our ability to deliver on schedule,” said Mark de Vere White, president of Itron’s electricity business line.
