Indian IT solutions company Tech Mahindra is to develop an intelligent electric vehicle charging system (IEVCS) for Ontario.

The ministry of energy, Ontario, has sponsored the project funded partly through the Ontario Smart Grid Fund, according to a statement issued by the company.

The company has reported in the statement that its solution will analyse the effects of electric vehicle charging on transformers and generate real-time transformer monitoring and analytics data.

It will automatically manage charging between vehicles to ensure that transformers are not overloaded owing to electric vehicle charging.

A recent report published by market analysis firm Navigant research, stated that by 2024 vehicle to grid integration technologies market was expected to grow in revenue to $68 million.

With the number of plug-in electric vehicles rising around the world, such solutions will be in great demand.

Tech Mahindra, along with its partners on the two-year project, is also expected to design and develop a reliable distribution system for electric vehicles.

“We believe that over the next two years our technologies will have done their part to build a smarter grid in Ontario through our IEVCS infrastructure,” Sirisha Voruganti, the global head of innovation and Tech Mahindra, said.

“This project will not only enhance Ontario’s smart grid but also enable Tech Mahindra to take an Ontario-based solution global,” Bob Chiarelli, Ontario minister of energy, was quoted as saying in the statement.
