Trump gets another thumb-down on rising solar tariffs

While the world is moving toward renewable energy, the U.S. administration is going rather regressive on their path to solar.

Industry watchers are of the view that Trump administration will impose new tariffs on imported solar panels, a move that will have an adverse impact on the country’s path to renewables.

The new tariffs will affect projects which rely on imported panels, a vast majority from China. Experts say this will also lead to massive loss of employment in the sector.

Beto O’Rourke, a Congressman from El Paso, tweeted that Trump solar panel tariff might cost 88,000 solar energy jobs out of 260,000 in the U.S.

More than the jobs and the associated loss to the economy, the increase in solar tariffs will further upset the U.S.’ commitment on clean energy, another thumb-down for Trump administration.
