Beginning the eighteenth of this month, Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) will begin operating entirely on solar power.

Official inauguration of the 12 megawatt peak solar power project on the CIAL premises will make the airport the first in the country to operate entirely on the clean energy resource.

CIAL MD VJ Kurien has stated that chief minister of Kerala Oommen Chandy will be inaugurating the facility.

According to reports, the solar power plant at CIAL is laid over 45 acres near the cargo complex. The project would be capable of generating 50,000 to 60,000 units of electricity per day. It will power the entire operations of CIAL.
