Softbank and Newcom to set up research firm in Mongolia to promote wind and solar power

Greentech Lead Asia: Softbank will form a research firm
in Mongolia in April 2012 with Mongolian investment firm Newcom Group to
promote wind and solar power generation projects in the country.

The new firm, Clean Energy Asia, will select sites for
wind and solar power projects in the Gobi desert and conduct feasibility
studies for the projects.

It also will support a joint wind power deal in Mongolia
involving Softbank, Newcom and Korea Electric Power.

Details such as how much money Softbank will invest in
the new firm have yet to be decided.

Mongolian Prime Minister Sukhbaatar Batbold, who attended
the deal-signing ceremony in Tokyo, said the Mongolian government intends to
offer every possible assistance to the planned enterprise.

The deal is in line with Softbank President Masayoshi
Son’s vision to create a cross-border supergrid power infrastructure straddling
several Asian countries including Japan.

Softbank, Sharp to Build Solar Power Plant in Japan’s Gunma

Recently, Softbank said a unit of Softbank will build a
solar power plant in Japan’s central Gunma prefecture. Sharp will build the 2.4
MW plant, and Softbank plans to begin operations in July.

KYOCERA and SOFTBANK to build 4.2MW solar project in Japan

Recently, the Kyocera Group and SB Energy, a SoftBank
Group subsidiary in charge of renewable energy business, said they will build
and operate a 4.2 MW solar power plant at Kyoto City in Japan.

Kyocera Group companies will provide solar module supply,
system design and material procurement, and the construction of the mega-solar
project for the new plant. SB Energy will operate the large-scale solar power
plant, and aims to have the system operating in time for the start of the new
feed-in tariff (FIT) which will go into place on July 1, 2012.
