Sol Systems to invest $200mn to finance 150 MW of projects

Sol Systems is planning around $200 million investment in solar energy asset class, with an aim to provide financial aid for nearly 150 MW of projects.

The company based at Washington D C, is also organizing $100 million in capital to finance 100 MW of commercial-scale and small utility projects ranging from 200kW to 5MW through 2015.

In 2014, Sol Systems financed over 85 MW of solar energy projects in the commercial and small utility-scale sector.

So far, the firm has enabled financing for 180MW of various solar energy assets across the U.S including projects like churches, schools, and grocery stores to major retailers and ground-mount utility farms.

Besides, the firm also manages 54 MW of solar assets through the solar renewable energy credit (SREC) services.

“Complexities of commercial and small-utility scale solar create an asset class that is unquestionably challenging, which we embrace,” noted Yuri Horwitz, CEO, Sol Systems.

The company is offering efficiencies and standardization to deliver an attractive financial product to institutional and corporate investors as well as a unique financing products portfolio for the solar industry.

Last year, the company expanded its team by over 75 percent with an aim to focus on the commercial-scale market.

In addition, Sol Systems opened offices in San Francisco, Pennsylvania and New Jersey, with plans to get established in New England by mid-year.

In Dec 2014, Jerry Stalun has joined Sol Systems as its Senior Director of Investments. In this role, Mr. Stalun will lead Sol Systems’ Investment and Structured Finance Teams in capital development for the firm’s solar energy investment and finance initiatives.

In another hiring, Michael Woods has joined the organization as General Counsel. In this role, Mr. Woods will lead Sol Systems’ legal efforts to achieve even greater efficiencies in structuring complex financial transactions for commercial solar energy projects.
