Silver Spring has announced an innovative smart water solution for utilities that offer both water service as well as electric service to customers.

Through Silver Spring IPv6 network of multi-service advanced metering system, high performing functionality providing considerable operational savings can be activated.

Earlier, this technology was used commonly by many larger Investor-Owned-Utilities.

Normally, water utility customers get minimum options for utilization management, as they receive their bill in monthly, quarterly or yearly.

The latest two-way water solution provides interactive approach like on demand bills, interval data collection and warning of irregularities along with handling the security solution, said, Josh Roper, VP, Advanced Metering Infrastructure, Silver Spring Networks.

In the same way that utilities are starting to leverage a single, multi-application network for advanced metering infrastructure and street lights, customers now have the option of near real-time understanding of the water usage, informed Roper.

The existing traditional analog system has lost financial sense and through the implementation of smart water technology around $12.5B can be saved. For multi-service utilities, it is becoming a priority as profits gained through advanced metering infrastructure and other smart grid technologies are seen clearly, said, Jason Rodriguez, CEO, research director, Zpryme Research.

Silver Spring is all prepared to install smart water solutions at Springfield City Utilities, a multi-service municipal utility providing electric, gas and water services in Springfield, Missouri.

This solution helps to achieve electric, gas and water meters with a single network, reducing deployment and operations costs. It is an attractive option for customers in all three commodities, said, Scott Miller, GM, City Utilities.

As part of the smart water solution, Silver Spring will be integrating its standards-based IPv6 network with various modules from Master Meter to deliver its two-way advanced water solution for municipal and co-op utilities.

Moreover, Silver Spring will now be enabled to enter its network of partners, including Itron for supporting the new smart water meter installation.
