Itron supports water management program at Turkish utility

Greentech Lead America: Smart metering solutions provider
Itron has been awarded a contract to supply and deliver a comprehensive water
solution to Kocaeli Water and Sewage Administration (ISU), a regional water
utility in Turkey.

ISU purchased Itron’s commercial and industrial (C&I)
water meters, advanced data collection system and software, together with
Itron’s consulting and support services.

Itron’s integration partner Manas provides integration, installation
and training services. With installation underway, the utility intends to have
the system fully deployed by May 2013.

Itron’s technology will monitor the C&I
accounts’ usage in real-time, which will be critical to capturing anomalies and
quickly correcting problems thereby saving costs and conserving water supply.
It will also ensure that key customers have access to their detailed
consumption on the internet.

“It’s an honor to work with ISU on such a significant
water resource management project,” said Mathias Martin, vice president
business development of Itron’s Water Group. “By implementing innovative
technologies, ISU is leading the way for network optimization and water loss
reduction for the whole region.”

“We believe that with this first implementation in
Turkey, ISU’s project will serve as an important model that will soon be
deployed by other Distribution Companies and in other countries,” said Ahmet
Resat Gorur, chairman of Manas.

Itron recently announced its entry into solar
market by launching a dedicated meter to monitor the energy production of
residential and commercial solar photovoltaic (PV) systems.

The revenue-grade solar meter utilizes an Itron cellular
communication module. It enables third-party solar providers to collect, store
and upload a solar system’s production data over an existing cellular network
link.
