The 1,200-Megawatt SE Curral Novo do Piaui II wind energy substation connecting the north and northeast regions of Brazil has been commissioned.
According to news website Canal Energia the project, completed in a year, required investments of BRL 110 million ($28.5 million). Local companies Queiroz Galvao Energia, Casa dos Ventos, federal utility Chesf, and US investor ContourGlobal were equal partners in the venture.
The report says that Curral Novo substation located in Serra do Inacio region will be transporting power from six wind parks of combined capacity of 1,200 MW.
The substation has seven auto transformers of 200 MVA each, the report adds.
