Gamesa has secured 84 MW of wind turbine supply contract from Brazil’s Força Eólica do Brasil (FEB) for three projects in Rio Grande do Norte.

Gamesa will supply 42 of its G114 2 MW turbines for the three upcoming facilities.

Força Eólica do Brasil is a consortium formed by Iberdrola and Neoenergia.

Under the deal, Gamesa will supply, transport, install, and commission 15 turbines each for Santana 1 and Santana 2 wind projects.

The remaining 15 turbines will be installed at the Calango 6 plant, to be established in the north-eastern state of Brazil.

Delivery of the consignment is scheduled for the third quarter of 2016 and the wind projects are expected to be commissioned in the fourth quarter.

The new G114 2MW model turbines are suitable for high-wind and low-turbulence conditions seen in Brazil.

Brazil is fast moving to renewables like solar and wind to address the worsening power crisis.

In 2014, Brazil developed a plan to expand the use of wind energy over the next ten years as the worst drought in decades raised concerns over the stability of hydro power.

Until now, Gamesa has signed firm orders for supplying 372MW of turbines to the Iberdrola-Neoenergia consortium.

Last week, Gamesa announced its deal to supply 100 MW of wind turbines –50 units of 2MW — in two phases for Orange Renewable Power’s plant in Maharashtra, India.

Orange Renewable Power, a company promoted by Singapore-based AT Holdings, will complete the first phase of 50 MW of the project in March 2015. The second phase of 50 MW is scheduled to be commissioned by June 2015.

As per the wind turbine deal, Gamesa will be responsible for the supply, erection and commissioning of turbines, in addition to operations and maintenance agreement.

In another development, Gamesa secured supply contracts from Zamudio, the Petroleum Corporation of Jamaica.

The deal will enable Gamesa to enter the Jamaican wind turbine market.

Gamesa will supply and install 12 of its G80-2.0 turbines totaling 24 MW to Wigton Windfarm III, a subsidiary of Zamudio.
