Iberdrola, ScottishPower Renewables open 136MW wind farm in U.K

ScottishPower Renewables, through its UK subsidiary, Iberdrola, the energy firm has opened the 136MW Harestanes wind farm in the Forest of Ae near Moffat.

The farm will equip 68 Gamesa G87 and G80 wind turbines, each with 2MW unit capacity. This £160m project covers 20KM square area in the Forest of Ale, managed by Scotland Forestry Commission.

The development work will also include constructing an operations and maintenance building along with 11KM of new tracks.

The wind farm will generate renewable energy enough for 73,000 homes and help to reduce 250,000 ton of carbon emissions a year.

Keith Anderson, CEO, ScottishPower Renewables said, “The onshore wind power is a major contributor for UK economy and projects like Harestanes helps to enhance finance investment in the locality as well as creating job vacancies.”

Fergus Ewing, minister for energy, Scotland said, “Such projects provide benefits in reducing carbon emissions and offer Scotland attain its target of 100 percent renewable energy as well as contribute to sustainable economic growth.”

The company is planning to develop an extension to Harestanes project. The project comes under the administrative area of Dumfries and Galloway Council.
