SKF to supply pitch and yaw bearings to ReGen

SKF pitch and yaw bearing

Swedish bearing company SKF and Indian wind turbine manufacturer ReGen Powertech have signed an agreement for the supply of bearings.

In accordance with the agreement, SKF should supply pitch and yaw bearing sets and mainshaft bearings for the manufacture of ReGen’s 1.5-MW wind turbines.

Pitch and yaw bearings are key components of machines that specifically need to constrain the relative motion between moving parts to only the desired motion.

Such bearings can provide free linear movement of the moving part or facilitate free rotation around a fixed axis.

The most sophisticated bearings for demanding applications such as wind turbines are devices that require great precision in their making. And their manufacture obviously takes some of the highest standards of technology.

Shishir Joshipura, the managing director and country head of SKF India, said: “These bearings will be manufactured at SKF’s Ahmedabad facility. This is a reflection of SKF’s commitment to the government’s ‘Make in India’ program.”

Both ReGen and SKF have had business associations since the former was established. ReGen has been sourcing main shaft bearings for its turbines from SKF. According to Madhusudan Khemka, the managing director of ReGen Powertech, the new agreement would strengthen partnership between the two companies.
