Over a period of 16 months, Suzlon has completed installing and commissioning of 350 MW wind energy in Brazil, as stated by the company sources.

The 350 MW projects completed are expected supply power to roughly one lakh homes in Brazil with clean energy.

The Calendar Year (CY) 2014 ended with the addition of a bulk of 309 MW capacities in Brazil by Suzlon.

The entire added capacity comprises recently completed projects in Rio Grande do Norte & Ceara in Brazil.

In addition, a total 168 Wind Turbine Generators (WTG) were supplied for three major clients in Brazil. The installations included 150 WTGs along with 18 WTGs of work-horse of S88, having a rated capacity of 2.1 MW.

“We remain focused on high growth and emerging markets and Brazil is a key geography of our growth strategy. Suzlon is committed to contribute to Brazil’s energy basket by reducing its carbon footprint and bridging the country’s power needs,” Tulsi R Tanti, chairman, Suzlon said.

These projects will contribute to reducing Brazil’s carbon footprint by eliminating nearly 0.54 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions every year.

Suzlon machines installed across various wind farms have delivered the highest Capacity Factor in Brazil over the years.

According to Operador Nacional do Sistema Electrico (ONS), Brazil’s national grid operator, amongst the top ten Wind Farms for the period Dec 2013 to Nov 2014, the first five slots and the eighth rank has been awarded to the Wind Farms with Suzlon machines.

Brazil is fast moving to renewables like solar and wind to address the worsening power crisis.

In 2014, Brazil developed a plan to expand the use of wind energy over the next ten years as the worst drought in decades raised concerns over the stability of hydro power.
