Tesla confer with BMW over car batteries and light-weight parts

U.S. electric carmaker Tesla is having primary discussions with Germany’s BMW over a possible alliance in batteries and light-weight components, according to Elon Musk, chairman and CEO of Tesla.

In an interview, Musk has described that BMW’s construction of carbon fiber reinforced car body parts are interesting and relatively cost efficient.

BMW in joint venture with materials supplier SGL uses carbon fibers to produce reinforced passenger cell parts for i3 electric hatchback and i8 plug-in hybrid sports car.

“We are talking about whether we can collaborate in battery technology or charging stations,” Musk was quoted saying.

No further detailed disclosure have been made so far by both companies regarding this talk.

However, BMW and Tesla officials met in June and conversed about the designing of charging stations usable for different types of electric cars.

BMW will continue to collaborate with Tesla even after selling its remaining four percent share in the U.S. Company. Tesla has also worked with Toyota on electric SUVs, commented, Rival Daimler, owner, Mercedes brand.

Tesla plans to have a battery production plant in Germany in five to six years, stated, Elon Musk during an interview.
