ABB joins Bosch and Cisco to offer smart home open-software technology

ABB, Robert Bosch and Cisco Systems have joined together to form a joint venture named as mozaiq operations.

The joint venture, designed at an international level will promote the development and operation of open-software platform for smart homes.

This open-software platform will help to gather existing individual solutions for home automation under one roof, offering interoperability across devices.

Mozaiq operations will develop the platform that will combine the Internet of Things, Services and People bringing them together into homes of consumers.

This integrated service will provide a single, easy and secure platform for a wide range of products to communicate with each other.

Such collaborations ensure that consumers have faster access to the best-possible technology, says ABB sources.

Consumers can effortlessly customize their appliances and devices, regardless of brand, to deliver an unprecedented level of control, comfort and significantly improve energy efficiency.

“This joint effort to develop an open-software platform for smart homes fits perfectly with ABB’s strategy to leverage the expanding opportunities of the Internet of Things, Services and People for consumers and companies alike,” said Tarak Mehta, head of ABB’s Low Voltage Products Division.

The mozaiq software platform will create opportunities for a range of new services by facilitating the simple exchange of data between different types of devices and their users.

ABB i-bus KNX is the intelligent installation system that meets the requirements for applications in smart home and building control, based on KNX technology.

The technology is accepted as the world’s first open standard for the control of all types of intelligent buildings including industrial, commercial or residential.

By creating a business ecosystem, ABB, Bosch and Cisco seek to facilitate cooperation, accommodating different demands and perspectives as the software platform is developed.

The interim head of mozaiq will be Dirk Schlesinger of Cisco Internet Business Solutions, based in Frankfurt, Germany.
