GameChange Solar, a provider of solar tracking solutions for ground-mounted PV plants, has secured a contract to supply its Genius Tracker solar trackers for four new solar projects totaling over 500 megawatts (MW) in Southern Africa.

Three projects are located in South Africa. One project is under the Risk Mitigation Independent Power Producer Program (RMIPPP) in the Northern Cape, along with two private sector initiatives aimed at providing electricity for mining operations in the Northern Cape and Limpopo regions.

The fourth project, situated in Zimbabwe, marks phase 1 of the Zimplats solar plant, with a capacity of 185 MW. This private-sector endeavor aims to supply essential power for the Zimplats platinum mining operation and is slated to commence power generation by the end of May 2024.

GameChange Solar has revealed plans for a new training and service center dedicated to its Genius Tracker products in South Africa. This initiative reaffirms GameChange Solar’s dedication to advancing renewable energy solutions and supporting the sustainable development agenda in Southern Africa.

Derick Botha, Chief Commercial Officer at GameChange Solar, emphasized the transformative potential of utility-scale solar projects in Southern Africa, particularly in addressing the region’s energy challenges.
