SolarWorld has completed the delivery of around 18 megawatts of solar-panel for various projects developed by Hannah Solar mainly for agricultural purpose.

The Atlanta based solar system integrator will install about 12.5 MW of SolarWorld solar panels this year.

Hannah Solar has undertaken these projects, under Georgia Power’s Advanced Solar Initiative, to make productive use of land in the region.

Under the program, it will take six years for the projects to begin clean energy production, which will be supplied at 13 cents/KW for next 20 years.

This initiative will be used by customers as a solar offsetting solution for their energy consumption as well.

For farmers, these projects are an alternative to cash crops as returns for investment is available throughout the year, irrespective of the weather conditions.

About 80 percent of the Hannah Solar projects have been established on farmlands, helping to lift the economies of rural areas of the state.

Among Hannah Solar’s project partners has been Dixon Gin, which has participated in 700 kilowatts in projects in Alapaha and Enigma, towns where the company operates its cotton, peanut and supply businesses.

Georgia has set the target to drive the state’s solar generating capacity from 20 MW to 1 gigawatt in next five years.
