Gamesa to invest $60 million in power transmission infrastructure in India

Greentech Lead India: Gamesa, a Spanish wind-turbine
maker, will invest $60 million in power transmission infrastructure in Tamil
Nadu, India.

According to Bloomberg, Gamesa plans to build a
400-kilovolt substation that will help distribute 750 MW of power in Tamil
Nadu. Gamesa is the third-biggest supplier of turbines in India. In the last
financial year, 93 percent of the capacity Gamesa installed in India was in
Tamil Nadu.

Tamil Nadu is home to 42 percent of India’s wind
capacity. The state’s aging power infrastructure is suffering issues that have
been crimping investment in new generation projects and forcing wind farms to
shut down when the grid is unable to cope.

Gamesa recently received an order from GAIL India, for
supplying 24.7 MW of wind power turbines to the project in Palani, Tamil Nadu.
