Danish wind turbine maker Vestas has launched a 3.45 megawatt low-wind V136 onshore turbine. It is the fifth turbine model of the company introduced in its 3-megawatt platform.

The turbine boasts an advanced blade design which helps increase energy production.

The turbine has 66.7-metre blades and a wider and taller tower suited for low wind conditions. The blades feature aerofoil designed in- with a high-lift low-drag ratio, and reduced noise levels.

It is the fifth model of Vestas in the 3-megawatt range.

The tower can be divided into sections to facilitate transportation by road and it offers a hub height of 149 metres.

The company plans to deploy a prototype of the turbine at its Oesterlid test centre in Denmark next year. Full scale production is expected to begin in late 2017.

In another development, Vestas has received an order to supply 12 V100 2.0MW turbines for HydroChina’s Phu Lac wind farm in the Tuy Phong district of southeastern Vietnam.

Phu Lac is the largest Vestas-supplied wind park in Vietnam and the company is also offering a five-year AOM 4000 service contract and a Scada system for data-driven monitoring and preventive maintenance as part of the deal.

Vestas will also supervise the installation and commissioning of the wind park.

The company had recently received a turbine supply contract for 100 units from Xcel Energy to be deployed at the 200 MW Courtenay Wind Farm project in North Dakota.
