Whirlpool Water is launching Refresh & Recycle, the first water filter recycling program.
It is a new recycling creativity that offers consumers an alternative to throwing out their used refrigerator water filters.
Through a partnership with g2 revolution, the recycling firm, each recycled refrigerator water filter is used in a new material rather than throwing away.
Whirlpool consumers are suggested to replace their refrigerator water filter every six months for better performance. With the help of new Refresh & Recycle mail-in program, these used refrigerator water filters are recycled.
These recycled filters are tested for material content and then converted into concrete aggregate, used for road construction as well as building other concrete structures.
The company, caring responsibility values for more than 100 years added with corporate sustainability strategy focuses on reducing the environmental impact from products at each stage of the lifecycle. It aims all aspects of the business from materials and processes to product technologies and end of life recycling, said, Maureen Sertich, sustainability lead, Whirlpool, North America.
This option gives consumers a chance to manage the water filter disposal and helps to optimize the performance of refrigerator water filtration by encouraging replacement of filters every six months, said, Daniel Ehler, senior marketing manager, Whirlpool Consumer Products.

Recycling mailers are available for purchasing at g2 revolution’s second life store at g2rev.com for use in the continental U.S.
The Recycling Kit having an MSRP of $8.99 includes a postage-paid poly plastic mailer for return shipping of filter and Water Filter Recycling Process instruction card.
The program will recycle used water filters from any of Whirlpool’s U.S. brands as well as accept used refrigerator water filters of any other brand.
Moreover, the consumers will receive a promo code for 10 percent off their next refrigerator water filter, redeemable on whirlpoolstores.com and valid on participating Whirlpool brands.
