Danish wind turbine maker Vestas Wind Systems will construct a 33-megawatt wind farm in Austria. The wind farm named Hohenruppersdorf II is being built in the northeastern state of Lower Austria.

Vestas will handle supply, installation, foundation work and commissioning of 10 units of its V126-3.3 MW turbines for Austrian firm Smart-energy Betriebs.

According to Martin Blochberger, the managing director of Betriebs, the V126 turbines were being deployed at the site as they were best suited for harvesting power at medium- to low-wind sites.

Delivery of turbines for the project — to be commissioned in the second quarter of next year — will begin in the fourth quarter of 2015.

The contract of undisclosed value also includes a 20-year, full-scope Vestas Active Output Management service agreement and VestasOnline Business SCADA solution, a statement issued by the company says.

At the end of last month, Vestas had received an order to install 200 V110-2.0 MW turbines for the Grand Prairie wind farm in Holt County, Nebraska.

The project is to be the largest single-phase project to be installed by Vestas in the United States.

The agreement was also the first turbine supply contract that BHE Renewables and Vestas entered.

Tom Budler, President of the wind division of BHE Renewables, said Grande Prairie will be the largest wind project in Nebraska and will have a major impact on the economy and energy future of the state.

The scope of the project, too, includes supply and commissioning of wind turbines besides a five-year Active Output Management service agreement designed to maximize energy production.

The project will also be completed in 2016, according to a statement which further states that deliveries are expected to begin in the second quarter of next year.
